Company History

This is the history of Tominaga Boeki Kaisha, Ltd.

The 70-year background as a trading company

May 1923 (Taisho 12)

Hisakichi Tominaga, the first company president, founded Tominaga Hisakichi Shoten for exporting fresh fruits, vegetables and marine products to Southeast Asia. The company went on to secure the position of leading global exporter of fresh fruits and vegetables. During World War II, it served as a distributor of rationed fresh fruits and vegetables with authorization from the Japanese government.

August 1945 (Showa 20)

With postwar reopening of Japan to private business, Tominaga Shokai was established as a company which specializes in exports.

September 1949 (Showa 24)

The business was reorganized as a joint stock company and renamed Tominaga Boeki Kaisha, Ltd. The initial capital of 2 million yen was gradually increased in subsequent years.

August 1956 (Showa 31)

Construction of a new company building was completed at Gokodori, Fukiai Ku (now Chio Ku), Kobe. Operations started with the Head Office on the third floor and cold storage facilities on the first and second floors.

August 1964 (Showa 39)

Kazuo Tominaga assumed the office of Representative Director and Chairman.

October 1973 (Showa 48)

The Tokyo Branch Office was relocated to Nihonbashi Kayaba-cho, Chuo-ku.

January 1975 (Showa 50)

An Osaka Branch Office was opened at Awaza Minamidori, Nishi Ku.The Material Division and part of the Import Division were relocated from the Head Office.

July 1977 (Showa 52)

As business expanded, paid-up capital was increased by 50% to 75 million yen.

June 1982 (Showa 57)

Tominaga Building was constructed (total 8 floors) and the building leasing business started.

December 1987 (Showa 62)

Construction of a new company building was completed at Koyocho-nishi, Higashinada-ku, Kobe (on Rokko Island). The Head Office was relocated.

July 1993 (Heisei 5)

The Head Office was relocated to Kyomachi, Chuo-ku, Kobe, and integrated with the Osaka Branch Office.

April 1994 (Heisei 6)

The company started distribution of its original soft drink brand, Kobe Kyoryuchi.

June 1994 (Heisei 6)

Akiyoshi Tominaga assumed the office of Representative Director and Chairman.

October 1994 (Heisei 6)

Due to expansion of sales in the Kyushu area, a Kyushu sales office was opened.

September 2002 (Heisei 14)

The Tominaga Building was rebuilt. The first to fifth floors were offered for long-term leasing, and the Tominaga Head Office was relocated to the sixth floor.

August 2005 (Heisei 17)

The Tokyo Branch Office was relocated to Nihonbashi, Chuo-ku.

December 2005 (Heisei 17)

The Kyushu Sales Office was relocated to Hakata-ku, Fukuoka.

February 2006 (Heisei 18)

A Hokkaido Sales Office was opened in Sapporo.

November 2006 (Heisei 18)

The company obtained ISO 9001 certification.

December 2006 (Heisei 18)

The company took over the trademark rights of the Parlor Series of beverage products from Takara Shuzo Co., Ltd.

December 2011 (Heisei 23)

Akiyoshi Tominaga assumed Chairman.
Kenichi Tanaka assumed the office of Representative Director and President.
